The Law Office of Melissa Scheidel is a general practice firm. We will help you with your legal issue, no matter what it is. If your case requires a specialty service that we do not provide, we can refer you to an attorney who can help, because, above all else, we care about the best resolution to your case.
While each case is evaluated and priced based on its own special set of circumstances, we understand that you have questions and concerns about how expensive legal services can be.
The following is a guide to common legal services and generalized pricing. Please feel free to contact us at any time for a free consultation and evaluation of your case.
Minor traffic violations can usually be handled with only one or two court appearances. We contact the prosecutor on your behalf and attempt to negotiate a favorable disposition, such as a dismissal of the charge, a reduction of the charge, or a reduction in the fine amount. We negotiate for the purpose of saving your driver's license or preventing your insurance rates from going up. We offer this service starting at $300 - $500. Of course, we will fight your ticket for you and take the matter to trial, pricing for which is done on a case by case basis.
The evidence in a DUI case is very technical, so you absolutely do not want to go to court without experienced representation. We evaluate the evidence on its merits and file pre-trial motions on your behalf. We will attempt to negotiate a favorable disposition and, if necessary, take the case to trial. A DUI case is usually handled over several court appearances, pricing for which starts at $2000.
If you live outside the state, or otherwise so far away that returning to the area to go to court would be inconvenient or burdensome, we will go to court for you. We handle your case just like any other, absent a trial. Instead of a trial, we present documentation to the court and submit your payment of fines/court costs on your behalf. We do this only after negotiating the best possible disposition. Pleas In Absentia are usually handled over two court appearances, pricing for which starts at $500.
Misdemeanor violations carry a maximum possible punishment of 12 months in jail and a $1000 fine for each charge you face. Many misdemeanors require a mandatory minimum sentence, which could include jail time, a large fine, or both. You do not want to go to court without an experienced attorney to evaluate your case and protect your rights. Most midemeanor cases can be handled over one to three court appearances, pricing for which starts at $1000.
